In der Ausstellung setzen sich die Künstler:innen mit den Auswirkungen von Krieg und Emigration sowie mit dem fortwährenden Bemühen auseinander, den Geist der Menschlichkeit inmitten der Turbulenzen kriegerischer Konflikte und der Erfahrung der Vertreibung aus der eigenen Heimat zu bewahren.

Die Porzellanarbeiten unserer Gastkünstler:in basieren auf sogenannten Kriegsprothesen. Dabei handelt es sich um Gesichtsprothesen, die im realen Leben verlorene oder zerstörte Gesichtspartien von Kriegsinvaliden ersetzen. Für die Künstler:in dienen sie als Metapher für die emotionalen Narben und unsichtbaren Wunden, die der Konflikt bei allen Betroffenen hinterlässt. Diesen berührenden, in Wien während des Residence Aufenthaltes entstandenen Arbeiten stellt die ebenfalls aus dem gleichen Land stammende, mittlerweile in Wien lebende und arbeitende Künstler:in (sie ist auch die Kurator:in der Ausstellung) Dokumentationen von Performances gegenüber die ihre eigene Immigrationsgeschichte thematisieren.

It was one of the most powerful exhibitions in the frame of the cooperation between BMEIA and MQ. Topics were the effects of war and emigration and the constant endeavour to preserve the spirit of humanity amidst all the turbulence of a warlike conflict and the experience of expulsion from one’s homeland.

Our young guest artist created in Vienna works being inspired by so-called war masks. In real life, these are facial prosthetics that cover lost or destroyed parts of the face of war invalids; for the artist, they are a metaphor for the emotional scars and invisible wounds that the conflict leaves behind in all those affected.

The second participating artist who was also curating this exhibition, originating from the same country than our guest, but now living and working in Vienna contrasts the porcellain objects created by her counterpart with the documentations of performances that address her own immigration history.
