Die ASoP Stipendiat:in ist Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaftler:in mit einem Forschungsschwerpunkt auf Theorie und Geschichte des sowjetischen Kinos und der sowjetischen Kultur in Belarus. Zur Zeit ihrer Residency war die Stipendiat:in eine der letzten noch in Belarus verbliebenen unabhängigen Personen, die an dem Buch „Die Revolution ist weiblich“ über die niedergeschlagenen zivilgesellschaftlichen Proteste beteiligt war. Dessen Autor:in lebt mittlerweile in Wien und hat eine Gastprofessur am Institut für die Wissenschaft vom Menschen (IWM).

Während ihres Aufenthaltes in Wien konnte die ASoP Stipendiat:in an ihrer neuesten Publikation über das belarussische Kino in der Sowjetzeit arbeiten. Nach einer „Pause von der Diktatur“, wie sie selbst es nannte, kehrte sie nach ihrem Aufenthalt in Wien nach Belarus zurück.

The ASOP scholarship recipient is a literary and cultural scholar with a research focus on the theory on the theory and history of Soviet cinema and Soviet culture in Belarus. She was working on a book “Another History of Soviet Belarusian Cinema. Research Essays”. The book will consist of 15 chapters in 4 parts: 1. A Red History of Belarusian Cinema. 1920s and Early 1930s; 2. “Soviet Belarusians” and the search for alternatives; 3. “It's going to be a long goodbye...”; 4. “Significant film shots. Belarusian Collage”.

Re-interpretation of Belarusian films of the Soviet period from the new research perspectives make it possible to see both the traumatism and contradictions of Belarusian history of the twentieth century. The book's goal is to analyze films within the framework of interdisciplinary methodologies -- сinema, sovietological, gender, postcolonial studies. This approach allows us to pose new questions that address cinema from today's time.

The genre of essays makes it possible to combine academic analysis of sources with a subjective selection of films and a free writing style", explains our guest from Belarus.
