small little things

Es ist die erste ASoP Kooperation mit dem Land Oberösterreich und mit der Gmundner Keramik. Gmundner Keramik ist eine jener bedeutenden Institutionen wo sich Kunsthandwerk und künstlerischer Ausdruck seit Generationen kreuzen, Mit dem Residence Programm Made in Gmunden steht einer der europaweit wenigen auf das Medium Keramik spezialisierten Zentren nunmehr auch ASoP Stipendiat:innen offen. In jeder Beziehung außerordentlich war dann der Beitrag der Künstler:in und ASoP Stipendiat:in. Ihr Mann, ebenfalls Künstler:in, kämpft seit nunmehr vier Jahren als Soldat für eine freie Ukraine.

Die Künstler:in konnte dank ASoP drei Monate eine „Auszeit“ vom Grauen des Krieges nehmen und ihr künstlerisches Werk fortsetzen. Mit „Simple Things“ hat sie auf berührende Weise dargestellt wie es die kleine Dinge sind, wie zum Beispiel eine funktionierende Glühlampe, die ihr die Kraft fürs Überleben geben.

small little things

This is the first ASoP collaboration with the province of Upper Austria and Gmundner Keramik. Gmundner ceramics is one of those important institutions where craftsmanship and artistic expression have intersected for generations. With the Made in Gmunden residency programme, one of the few centres in Europe specialising in ceramics is now also open to ASoP scholarship holders. The contribution of our guest and artist was extraordinary in every respect. Her husband, also an artist, has been fighting as a soldier for a free Ukraine for four years now.

Thanks to ASoP, the artist was able to take a three-month ‘break’ from the horrors of war and continue her artistic work. With ‘Simple Things’, she has touchingly portrayed how it is the little things, such as a working light bulb, that give her the strength to survive.
